Cheever competed in Formula 1 from 1978-1989. He drove for Theodore, Hesketh, Osella, Tyrrell, Ligier, Renault, Alfa Romeo, Haas Lola and Arrows. He formed his own Indy Racing League team and won the Indianapolis 500 in 1998.
